Shockwave Therapy
Radial Shockwave
Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) combines radial pressure waves, focused shockwave treatment and vibration therapy. It delivers simple, non-surgical treatment for chronic musculoskeletal problems, persistent pain or niggling joint issues, and it is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). Shockwave Therapy is clinically proven, covered by private health insurers, recognised by the top orthopaedic hospitals and used by high profile professional sports bodies such as the English Institute of Sport.
Shockwave Therapy is a highly effective treatment for conditions such as Achilles Tendinopathy, Plantar Fasciitis and Calcific Tendonitis of the shoulder, to name a few. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that eliminates pain, restores full mobility and greatly improves quality of life, with beneficial effects typically experienced after only one or two sessions. The extracorporeal shockwave therapy or acoustic wave therapy is perfect for musculoskeletal conditions and pain relief. Increasing healthy blood flow, growth of new blood vessels and inflammation, shockwave technology is an effective treatment for chronic trochanteric pain syndrome.
Focused Shockwave
Focused Shockwave Therapy is a clinically proven, drug-free, minimal discomfort, treatment for men’s sexual health conditions including vasculogenic erectile dysfunction and Chronic Pelvic Pain Prostatitis. It is the only non-invasive procedure that treats the root causes of erectile dysfunction in men by increasing blood flow, forming new blood vessels, and breaking down micro-plaques in the penis. Typically patients will notice some change within a few weeks of starting treatment, but with the most significant changes occurring after 6–8 weeks, and if you address the underlying causes of your ED, such as exercise, nutrition and lifestyle, then the results can be improved.
The treatment pathway is simple, once you have a medical diagnosis we’ll hold a short consultation in which we establish how severe your condition might be, from here we can suggest an appropriate number of treatment sessions. And if you don’t have a formal diagnosis, we can help there too.
WHAT ARE SHOCKWAVES?
In a nutshell, Shockwaves are high-energy, audible sound waves. Shockwaves have been used in medicine since 1980, among other conditions, including the disintegration of kidney stones.
In rehabilitation therapy, shockwaves are channeled to the area to accelerate healing.
Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) involves passing short, intense sound waves into damaged tissues, which increases blood flow, has an analgesic effect and stimulates the repair and regeneration process.
The treatment puts the cells into repair mode and allows your body to restart its own accelerated healing process.
Shockwave Therapy for ED involves passing painless, short, intense focused waves into the affected tissues. These waves increase blood flow, stimulate repair and tissue regeneration - sending the body’s cells into repair mode and restarts its own accelerated healing process.
Many patients suffer from ED because the smooth muscle in their penile arteries has been damaged. Shockwave Therapy has been shown to induce the body to repair the smooth muscle in the penis and therefore improve function.
How does it treat ED?

Treatment Benefits
✓ Fewer potential complication
✓ Quick recovery
✓ No anaesthesia
✓ Non-invasive
✓ No medication
✓ Fast treatment: 20 minutes per session
✓ Significant clinical benefits: often seen 6 to 8 weeks after treatment
Shockwave therapy works best for men who are experiencing:
Mild to moderate erectile dysfunction
Men with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction that respond well to PDE-5 medication may be able to regain their erections naturally and significantly reduce or remove their dependence on medication
Men with moderate to severe erectile dysfunction that do not respond to PDE-5 medication and rely on injections or other treatments may become more respondent to PDE-5 medication after shockwave therapy
Vascular related erection problems due to age and/or lifestyle
Erectile dysfunction when ED medicines have been tried and failed
When is shockwave therapy not suitable?
Shockwave is unsuitable in the following circumstances:
If you are pregnant
If you have a blood clotting disorder (including thrombosis)
If you are taking oral anti-coagulants
If you have received a Steroid injection within 6 weeks
If you have a Pacemaker fitted
If tumours are present at the treatment site
If you have an infection or skin abrasion at the treatment site
If you are Under 18 (except in the treatment of Osgood-Schlatter disease)
