Peyronie's Disease
causes, symptoms & treatments
What is Peyronie's Disease
Peyronie's disease is a condition characterised by the development of fibrous scar tissue, or plaques, within the penis. These plaques can cause the penis to bend or curve during erections, leading to pain, discomfort, and sometimes difficulty with sexual intercourse.
The cause of Peyronie's Disease is thought to involve a combination of genetic, trauma-related, and inflammatory factors.
It is a very common condition affecting around 4 out of 100 men between the ages of 40 and 70. It is most common in men over the age of 30, but can appear in younger men too.
The symptoms of Peyronie's disease can vary from mild to severe, and the condition may develop gradually or suddenly. In addition to penile curvature, individuals with Peyronie's disease may experience other symptoms such as erectile dysfunction, pain during erections, and the presence of a palpable lump or plaque in the penis.
